Buttery, crisp-edged pain au chocolats from Hobbs House Bakery in Chipping Sodbury, proper artisan pastry baked with their signature sourdough skill and dark chocolate at the heart.
Hobbs House Bakery has been baking bread and pastry in the Cotswolds for three generations, and their pain au chocolats carry every bit of that tradition. Made by hand using slow-fermented dough and a serious amount of proper butter, they have the kind of shatteringly crisp exterior and pillowy, honeyed interior that tells you immediately these are a different class of pastry to anything you'd find in a supermarket chiller cabinet. At the centre, a generous column of dark chocolate melts just enough on reheating to give that essential bitter-sweet contrast against the rich, layered dough.
We offer Next Day Delivery on orders placed by 1pm Monday to Thursday (excluding Highlands & Islands postcodes). During busy periods such as Christmas and Easter, cut-off times and lead times may change.
Keep frozen until you’re ready to bake, and use by the date shown on the packaging.
Baking pain au chocolat at home takes a little planning, but most of the work happens while you sleep. The night before, line a baking tray with parchment and lay out your pastries, leaving plenty of space between each one, as they’ll grow as they prove. Cover loosely and leave somewhere warm overnight. By morning they should have doubled in size, light and puffed with the layers starting to show. Uncover, brush with beaten egg (or milk, for a softer finish) and bake in an oven preheated to 180°C for around 15 minutes, until deep golden. Move them to a wire rack to cool for a few minutes before eating.

Pork Shoulder
We cooked the rolled pork shoulder last Sunday and it was outstanding. Proper crackling, rich flavour and no watery mess in the tray. You can really taste the difference in how the animals are raised.

Slow Grown Whole Chicken
The chicken was full of flavour and roasted evenly. Nothing pumped or artificial about it. Just proper, honest food and a world away from supermarket birds.

Pipers & Co has that rare mix of convenience and genuine craft. Delivery is reliable and the meat arrives in perfect condition. It feels like you’re supporting real farmers not a big faceless company.
